Comedy Open Mic Rules of Conduct
Performers:
Be on time for the sign up. Sign ups are at 8:15pm-8:30pm. The order in which you sign up is not necessarily the order of performance, nor will it guarantee you get stage time. Both are at the discretion of the host & club management.
Try to take seating on the floor and the rear of the room, as the bar and prime show tables are for the audience and your guests.
Dress code is casual and clean, no undergarments, pajamas or ripped shorts or hanging pants, or attire that is too revealing.
You will be given an average of 5-8 mins stage time, however the host has the discretion to shorten or allow more time depending on whether you are “bombing” or totally killing it. It's all about the performance. Respect the “light” which is shown when you have 1 minute left of stage time. Going over the light is highly frowned upon and may result in losing any stage time in the future.
Don't be intoxicated or on drugs when performing.
DO NOT HECKLE! Ever! Period.
Use original material! Don't read off jokes you've seen on the internet, or worse yet stolen from another comedian! If you do you won't be allowed back and we will curse your non-original soul to flames forever more! SCUM! We will find you.....
Remember that the success of your performance depends on audience engagement, with that in mind bring at least two people with you if you can. It's very helpful for the entire open mic to fill the floor. They must also obey all the club rules while there. Not bringing in people will not necessarily keep you from stage time, but those who bring people will be given priority over those who do not.
There is no sane reason to run with comedy in a venue, so when a club provides a stage dedicated to comedy it's up to you to help it survive so you can continue to have a place to perform. With that in mind, please respect the two item purchase rule, and insist all of your guests do the same. It does not have to be alcohol. Also remember the bartenders, they work hard and help control the crowd for your set to be seen and heard, so make sure you and all of your guests tip them!
Have a good time! We understand better than anyone that live stand-up comedy is not easy, it takes guts to get up on that stage and try. We will be as supportive of you as possible, so break a leg!
